EATON: gearboxes from the American manufacturer

The company producing spare parts and components for trucks is widely known all over the world. The head office is located in Cleveland.

EATON will supply the following spare parts to the world market:

  • Transmission for trucks;
  • Distributing devices and control devices;
  • Component parts for engines;
  • Hydraulic systems.

The American company has production facilities on all continents of the planet and is sold in more than a hundred countries.

In the Old World, the company began its activities immediately after the Second World War. Her first step was the acquisition of a certain number of shares in a company engaged in the production of components for engines. Today, EATON's production facilities can be found in countries such as Germany, France, Poland, Great Britain and Spain.

EATON 8-speed gearbox, S-series with two countershafts, "easy-on" synchronizers, with aluminum housing, pump lubrication system and H-shaped gear shift pattern

The EATON gearbox and other spare parts produced by this company are installed on trucks with a gross weight of 8 to 44 tons.

The company made a big leap forward in 1958, when its engineering workshop showed the world the completely revolutionary Fuller gearbox. Its feature was the presence of two intermediate shafts. For 50 years, the conveyors of EATON factories have produced about 5 million of these spare parts.

Nowadays, the company mainly produces six- and nine-speed manual transmissions. In the 94th year, the first gearbox came off the assembly line, which had 16 steps and made it possible to switch them very quickly due to some of its design features.

Features of the gearbox from EATON

As already mentioned, a feature of this company's gearboxes is the presence of two transmission shafts. This design feature makes it possible to reduce the size of the teeth by almost half without increasing the stress in them. Dynamic loads are also reduced as the main shaft moves freely between the auxiliary drive shafts. This made it possible to significantly reduce the overall length of the entire structure, while maintaining the same endurance and durability behind it.

EATON gearboxes have spur gears. This results in less noise and a more even distribution of stress across the gears - there are more than two teeth in the coupling. In addition, the gears do not require the installation of additional parts to reduce additional loads.

Since the box has two transmission shafts, the torque is evenly divided into them. This greatly facilitates the operation of the bearings and increases their durability. Gear shifting takes place with the help of modified sliding couplings, which have a very simple but reliable design.

In 1999, the EATON lineup consisted of more than 40 types of transmissions. The number of gears can be from 5 to 15. Competently combining them, the manufacturer is ready to satisfy the demand of absolutely any client, designing the transmission strictly individually.

Assembly of gearboxes at the company's plant in Saint-Nazaire, France

The manufacturing processes developed and used at EATON are unchanged. They are used in absolutely all factories of the company. Fuller gearboxes made in the USA or in France equally meet all high quality requirements, which makes it easy to find the spare parts needed for repair, regardless of where the transmission was manufactured.
