In the States, pickups are produced (and sold) in huge quantities - in the millions every year. Here is the Dodge Ram: in 2003, 450 thousand copies were sold - in all versions. Diversity

The 2012 model belongs to the 4th generation of Ram pickups (DS / DJ index), which has been on the assembly line for the 4th year. The abundance of truck variants is striking, falling into three broad families: light 1500, medium 2500 and heavy 3500. It is not the same at all. With 2-door Regular Cab as well as 4-door Quad Cab and Crew Cab. With rear wheel drive - and with a 4WD transmission. The lightweight Ram 1500 alone has 11 versions: Tradesman, Express, Outdoorsman, ST, SLT, Sport, Sport R / T, Lone Star, Big Horn, Laramie and Laramie Longhorn. Plus the 2500 and 3500 families. For the 2012 model year, the 1500 series pickup has been slightly updated: the original cutout of the false radiator is expressively accentuated, the design of the front light blocks has been refined. Nuances in the corporate style: the pickup brand is unmistakably recognizable from a distance. One way or another, the Ram 1500 retains the characteristic appearance of a powerful and dynamic "truck", the very appearance of which seems to warn: do not get on the road! Although in reality, Dodge pickups are flexible multi-purpose vehicles, practical and efficient.

The aerodynamics are unimportant: the air drag coefficient of the Ram 1500 is about 0.42. Too much, and with a huge frontal area of the pickup, the aerodynamic factor is too great: almost 2 times worse, for example, than in the Volkswagen Golf. Unprofitable at speeds: excessive consumption of fuel, noise of incoming air. Anyway, a full-size truck is not the same as a hatchback in a C-class.

The cargo-passenger crew in options: for example, the Ram 1500 with a 2-door Regular Cab takes on board three adults. In any case, a spacious sofa (with an internal width of the cabin along the window sills of almost 168 cm!) Allows. Although those who sit in the middle have nowhere to put their legs - the very prominent transmission tunnel (above the automatic transmission) interferes. That is, conventionally three - or only two (if the seats are individual). A pickup with a 4-door cab is a 5- or 6-seater (with the same caveat) vehicle - depending on the configuration of the front row. In the 2nd row, the three of us are completely free: there is legroom - and the ceiling under the high roof line does not rest on the head of even the tallest passengers.

The cab environment is now noticeably more comfortable than before on Chrysler pickups.

The driver's seat is adjustable not only longitudinally, but also in height, and the steering wheel is set according to the angle of inclination (but not along the reach). The updated interior is tastefully decorated and well finished: combined seat upholstery (vinyl / fabric), not inferior quality plastics around. The front panel looks impressive - quite American style, and the steering column is decorated (in versions with a 3-seater front sofa) with a "poker" of automatic transmission ranges. The cabin contains numerous "glove compartments", niches, trays and drawers (allegedly, in the 4-door Crew Cab there are as many as 42 compartments for small luggage). And, of course, the inevitable "cup holders" are in the first and second rows.
